Rising with the Sun

Wind over the desert floor

Ashes circle an ancient door

Footsteps carved in burning sand

A silent, waiting hand

I walked beyond the edge of day

Where dying embers learn to pray

The sky hung low, a bleeding crown

No king remained, no throne, no town

Faces rising from the clay

Murmuring what they could not say

In every grain, a memory sung

Of broken fathers, unborn sons
